Learning English is important and people all over the world decide to study it as a second language. Many countries include English as a second language in their school syllabus and children start learning English at a young age.

However, do you know why learning English is so important? Here are ten good reasons to study English.

1. For Travelling

Whether you like it or not, English is the number one, official international language. Which means that travelling without knowing the language will make your life very difficult.

Airports, roads and trains almost everywhere are signed in English. And let’s not forget the people. Hotel staff, information centre workers, and the general public are likely to know at least a little English. But probably none of your mother tongue language. Sorry. It’s the truth.

Like to travel? Then you’ll need to brush up on your language skills on an English language course first.

2. For Work

You probably want to have a successful career, right? Yes, of course, we all do.

Well speaking another language will definitely help. And because English is the official international language, then you’re going to find it tricky dealing with international companies or tourists if you don’t speak or understand it. Almost all companies will value you more if you have a good level of English.

3. For Academic Studies

Approximately 80% of the world’s academic and research papers are published in English. British and American universities are generally regarded as being the best in the world. And because of this, researchers from many other countries, who make breakthrough advancements in technological, scientific or theoretical research, tend to get their work published in the UK or the US. So if you want to get the most out of your academic studies, you’ll need English.

At Language Embassys, we offer English language courses which will prepare you for the all-important IELTS exam. Getting a high score in this exam will allow you to study at any of the best English-speaking universities in the world; Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard – wherever you want!

4. For the Web

Most of the internet is in English. So if you’re thinking of creating a website for your company or you just like to surf the web and socialize on social media sites, English will help you massively.

In fact, the blog you’re reading right now is in English, so you must have known this already

5. For Your Mind

On top of all the practical benefits we’ve just mentioned, learning a language is great mental stimulation. It uses a part of your brain that otherwise would just be left to sleep. It requires patience, memory, analytical skills and social skills – which can all help you in every aspect of your life. And don’t forget, it can be really fun too!

Especially if you take an English language course at Language Embassy and learn in a multinational class of students, with an excellent, friendly teacher to guide you.

6. English is the most commonly spoken language in the world. One out of five people can speak or at least understand English!

7. English is the language of science, of aviation, computers, diplomacy, and tourism. Knowing English increases your chances of getting a good job in a multinational company within your home country or of finding work abroad.

8. English is the official language of 53 countries. That is a lot of people to meet and speak to.

9. English is spoken as a first language by around 400 million people around the world.

10. English is the language of the media industry. If you speak English, you won’t need to rely on translations and subtitles anymore to enjoy your favourite books, songs, films and TV shows.

11. English is also the language of the Internet. Many websites are written in English – you will be able to understand them and to take part in forums and discussions.

12. English is based on a simple alphabet and it is fairly quick and easy to learn compared to other languages.

13. English is not only useful — it gives you a lot of satisfaction. Making progress feels great. You will enjoy learning English, if you remember that every hour you spend gets you closer to perfection.

14. Since English is spoken in so many different countries there are thousands of schools around the world that offer programmes in English. If you speak English, there’re lots of opportunities for you to find an appropriate school and course to suit your academic needs.

15. Because it’s fun! By learning English, you will also learn about other cultures. Few experiences will make you grow as a person more than learning the values, habits and way of life in a culture that is different from yours.

If you want to learn English, we can help you improve your English skills with Language Embassy course.
